Abstract
Investors in Mexican power plants are concerned about the credit implications surrounding the potential privatization of Comision Federal de Electricidad S.A.'s (CFE). Most of the private power plants in Mexico sell their output to CFE under long-term agreements and the creditworthiness of the projects is highly dependent on the creditworthiness of CFE. In most cases, the power contracts include buy-out provisions if CFE is privatized. However, investors have voiced some concern about the nature of the government's responsibility if CFE is privatized.
