Abstract
The rating on N.C.'s GO bonds reflects: A very strong and diverse economic base, which is greatly enhanced by the presence of Research Triangle Park; Solid growth in assessed valuations; Sound financial performance highlighted through substantial fund balances; and A moderate debt burden with a rapid amortization schedule. The series 2001 bonds are a GO pledge, secured by the full faith and credit of the county. Bond proceeds will be used to refund outstanding bonds. Durham County is in north-central North Carolina and has a population of about 222,000. The county is a leading center for the healthcare; high-technology; and research and development industries, all of which are boosted by the presence of Research Triangle Park.
