Server System Industry Development Key Trends & Major Players' Strategies, 2011 and Beyond
Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) [a division of Institute for Information Industry (III)], May 2011, Pages: 26
Cloud computing has been concentrating computing power in the server-end, thereby bolstering growth momentum in the server-related industries; in addition to the market value of cloud servers and data centers, it is expected that computing-related demand for products and services such as multi-core CPU, storage, and network, along with demand for memory and storage IC applications, will be stimulated by cloud computing aswell. With an increasing global focus on virtualization and energy saving, the development of server products has a tendency towards the direction of integration.
In the face of rapid changes in the Taiwanese server system industry, virtualization and cloud computing are two challenges for the industry to upgrade to the next level. In order to stand out in the fiercely competitive environment and to tap new business opportunities, branded server vendors and/or server manufacturers would have to improve chip performance and abilities to bring hardware and software together while providing more value-added solutions, such as pre-configured bundles of servers, storage, software and services, which consist of everything consumers need
Observing branded server vendors' development trends, product planning and strategies, key successful factors can be identified to help server manufacturers develop their own-brand businesses, while getting an insight into branded server vendors' product strategies to help them develop new service models.
