LONDON (Standard & Poor's) Sept. 19, 2007--Structural fiscal consolidation achieved during the past 12 months has helped to mitigate the long-term solvency challenges caused by rapidly aging societies in many advanced economies worldwide, says Standard & Poor's Ratings Services in a research report published today. Titled "What A Change A Year Makes: Standard & Poor's 2007 Global Graying Progress Report," it updates our 2006 study on the sustainability of public finances in the light of demographic change. It covers 32 sovereigns, including 25 EU members, Norway, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, and Korea.
