Bulletin: Arizona Wildfire Not Expected To Affect Utility Ratings Jun 11
Standard & Poors, June 2011
Abstract SAN FRANCISCO (Standard & Poor's) June 10, 2011--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today that it does not expect any ratings impact on electric utilities potentially exposed to system disruptions due to the Wallow wildfire in Arizona. The wildfire could directly damage transmission lines or cause a shutdown to prevent a short circuit because smoke from the fire creates an alternate current path. If damaged, the lines could take weeks to clean and repair. El Paso Electric Co. (BBB/Stable/--) and Tucson Electric Power Co. (BB+/Stable/B-2) face the greatest exposure through two transmission lines. These companies report that they are securing additional resources and preparing for the possibility of rolling blackouts, which may not occur even if the lines go down....
