Abstract
NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) June 7, 2002--Standard & Poor's today assigned its preliminary rating of single-'A' to the senior and subordinated debt securities and single-'A'-minus to the trust-preferred securities filed by Ameren Corp. under a $1.5 billion shelf registration which also includes common stock, stock purchase contracts, and stock purchase units. Proceeds will be used to finance ongoing construction and maintenance programs, repay outstanding debt, and finance strategic investments in, or future acquisitions of, other entities or assets, including Ameren's pending acquisition of CILCORP Inc. On April 29, 2002, Standard & Poor's placed its ratings of Ameren Corp. and subsidiaries Union Electric Co. and Central Illinois Public Service Co. on CreditWatch with negative implications.
