Alcatel & Units Still on S&PWatch Negative Jun 97

Abstract LONDON -- Standard & Poor's CreditWire 6/3/97 -- Standard & Poor's maintains its senior unsecured, medium-term notes and commercial paper ratings of Alcatel Alsthom S.A. (Alcatel) and its guaranteed subsidiaries on CreditWatch with negative implications (see list below). The outcome of the French parliamentary elections held on June 1st, 1997, very much reduce the likelihood that the Thomson group would be partly or totally privatized short term. Alcatel had applied for the majority of Thomson-CSF's stock. Standard & Poor's considers that this possibility no longer impacts Alcatel's creditworthiness.
