Alcatel Short-Term Ratings Cut to 'A-3' After Weak Fourth Quarter Results; Outlook Negative Feb 02

Abstract LONDON (Standard & Poor's) Feb. 13, 2002--Following the release of fourth quarter and full year results for the financial year ended Dec. 31, 2001, by France-based telecommunications equipment provider Alcatel, Standard & Poor's today lowered its short-term corporate credit rating on Alcatel to 'A-3' from 'A-2'. At the same time the commercial paper ratings on Alcatel and guaranteed subsidiaries Alcatel Canada Finance Inc. and Alcatel Finance Australia Ltd. were also lowered to 'A-3' from 'A-2'. In addition, the triple-'B' long-term corporate credit and senior unsecured debt ratings on Alcatel were affirmed. The outlook is negative.
