Ameren and Units Ratings Affirmed, Off Watch Neg Jul 04

Abstract NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) July 30, 2004--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today that it affirmed its 'A-' long-term corporate credit ratings on utility holding company Ameren Corp. and its subsidiaries, Union Electric Co., Central Illinois Public Service Co., CILCORP Inc., Central Illinois Light Co. (CILCO), and AmerenEnergy Generating Co., and removed the ratings from CreditWatch with negative implications. The 'A-2' short-term corporate credit ratings on Ameren and Union Electric were not on CreditWatch. The outlook is negative. The long-term ratings were originally placed on CreditWatch Feb. 3, 2004 after Ameren agreed to purchase the stock of Illinois Power Co. and a 20% interest in Electric Energy Inc. from Dynegy Inc.
