Alcatel 'A-3' Short-Term Ratings Placed on Watch Neg After Adverse Trading Update Jun 02

Abstract LONDON (Standard & Poor's) June 26, 2002--Following an adverse trading update by France-based telecommunications equipment provider Alcatel on June 26, 2002, Standard & Poor's said today it placed its 'A-3' short-term corporate credit ratings on Alcatel on CreditWatch with negative implications. At the same time, the 'A-3' commercial paper ratings on Alcatel and guaranteed subsidiaries Alcatel Finance Australia Ltd. and Alcatel Canada Finance Inc. were also placed on CreditWatch with negative implications. The triple-'B' long-term corporate credit and senior unsecured debt ratings on Alcatel remain on CreditWatch with negative implications, where they were placed on April 30, 2002, following the release of the group's first-quarter results.
