Alcatel's 'A'/'A-1' Ratings Affirmed Following Agreement to Acquire Genesys; Outlook Stable Sep 99

Abstract LONDON (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) Sept. 29, 1999--Standard & Poor's today affirmed its ratings on Alcatel S.A. and related entities. The outlook is stable. (See list below for all rating actions.) The affirmations follow the announcement that Alcatel has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories Inc. (not rated) in a stock-for-stock transaction valuing Genesys at about $1.5 billion. Completion of the acquisition is subject to the expiry or termination of applicable waiting periods under appropriate antitrust laws, and approval by Genesys shareholders. The deal is expected to be completed in January 2000. Genesys is a U.S.-based software house dealing in computer telephony integration and enterprise interaction management solutions products.
