Alcatel's 'A/A-1' Ratings Affirmed After Acquisition of Canadian Network Company Feb 00

Abstract LONDON (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) Feb. 24, 2000--Following the announcement that telecommunications equipment manufacturer Alcatel S.A. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Newbridge Networks Corp. (Newbridge) in a stock-for-stock transaction valuing Newbridge at about US$7.1 billion, Standard & Poor's today affirmed its single-'A'/'A-1' ratings on Alcatel S.A. (Alcatel) and related entities.(See list below for all rating actions). Completion of the acquisition is subject to Newbridge and Alcatel shareholders' approval, the expiration or termination of waiting periods under applicable antitrust laws, Canadian foreign investment review, and other customary conditions.
