Alcatel Cut To 'BB-' & Lucent Raised To 'BB-' On Merger Approval; Outlooks Positive; Off Watch Dec 06

Abstract MADRID (Standard & Poor's) Dec. 5, 2006--Standard & Poor's said today that, following news that the merger between French telecoms equipment supplier Alcatel and U.S. peer Lucent Technologies Inc. has received final approval from the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investments, it has lowered its long-term corporate credit and senior unsecured debt ratings on Alcatel--now named Alcatel Lucent--to 'BB-' from 'BB', in line with its preliminary indication in its Nov. 7, 2006, research update. The 'B' short-term corporate credit rating on Alcatel Lucent was affirmed. The outlook is positive. At the same time, Standard & Poor's equalized its long-term corporate credit rating on Lucent with that of Alcatel Lucent, raising it to 'BB-' from 'B', and affirmed its 'B-1' short-term corporate...
