Abstract BellSouth Telecommunications Inc.'s (BellSouth Telecom) credit strength is a function of the company's well-above-average business position and management's conservative financial policy. The company's business position benefits from economic and regulatory diversity across its nine-state service area, good service quality, and increasing operating efficiency. BellSouth Telecom's more than 23 million telephone access lines and associated revenues are somewhat less concentrated in the larger metropolitan areas than is typical for a Bell operating company.
