Abstract LONDON -- Standard & Poor's CreditWire 3/14/97 -- Standard & Poor's today has placed its senior unsecured, medium-term notes and commercial paper ratings of Alcatel Alsthom S.A. (Alcatel) and its guaranteed subsidiaries on CreditWatch with negative implications (see list below). The rating action follows Alcatel's March 12th press announcement that, jointly with the French aircraft manufacturer Dassault (unrated), they will bid for the French government's majority stake into the defense electronics group Thomson-CSF, which will likely be subject to a bid by France's defense and media group Lagardere (unrated) within the privatization process.
