Abstract
The insurer financial strength rating on Allstate Insurance Co. (AIC) reflects the very strong competitive position and brand name recognition, very strong capitalization and quality of capital, and very strong operating performance, liquidity, and financial flexibility of AIC and its affiliated property/casualty (P/C) insurance companies (collectively Allstate). Partially offsetting these positive factors are the company's exposure to potential large catastrophic events in certain regions of the U.S. along with recurring charges for adverse reserve development arising from its asbestos exposure. Allstate is the second largest personal lines insurance company in the U.S. with an estimated 11% market share, second only to State Farm P/C Insurance Group.
