Abstract
LONDON -- Standard & Poor's CreditWire 10/17/96 -- Standard & Poor's today has affirmed and removed from CreditWatch senior debt, medium-term notes, and commercial paper ratings of Alcatel Alsthom S.A. (Alcatel) and its guaranteed subsidiaries, where they were placed Sept. 20, 1996 with negative implications (see list below). The CreditWatch placement resulted from Alcatel's official bid for the French defense and consumer electronics group Thomson S.A. (rated single-`A'-minus/`A-2'). The long- term rating outlook is negative. The affirmation follows the French government's recent choice of the other bidder, France's defense and media group Lagardere, as the buyer of its interest in Thomson S.A.
