Abstract The insurer financial strength ratings on the members of the Allstate Financial Group (collectively referred to as Allstate Financial; see Table 4) reflect the breadth and depth of its product and distribution capabilities as well as its strong brand name recognition, conservative capitalization, and strategic importance to parent, Allstate Insurance Co. (AIC). Partially offsetting these strengths has been deterioration in the company's financial performance, as lower-than-expected equity market returns, asset impairments, and low interest rates have negatively affected earnings.
