Atlantic Richfield & Vastar Put on Watch, BP Amoco Ratings Affirmed, Merger Talks Mar 99

Abstract NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) March 31, 1999--Standard & Poor's today affirmed its ratings on BP Amoco PLC and its related entities (see list below). The outlook on BP Amoco PLC remains stable. At the same time, Standard & Poor's placed its ratings of Atlantic Richfield Co. (ARCO) and its related entities and Vastar Resources Inc. on CreditWatch with positive implications (See list below). The CreditWatch placement follows the announcement that London-based BP Amoco and Los Angeles, Calif.-based ARCO are in merger discussions. The transaction would form the world's second largest non-state oil company by market capitalization.
