Bristol is in central Connecticut, about 16 miles outside of Hartford, Conn. Population trends have been relatively flat over the past decade with a recent estimate of 59,509. School enrollment increased slightly over the past few years to 8,649 in 1998. The employment base is growing and continues to move towards diversification. Leading employers include Bristol Hospital (1,500 employees), Entertainment and Sports Network (ESPN) headquarters (1,100 employees), and CIGNA(800 employees).
