Abstract The rating on Arlington County, Va.'s debt reflects: An enduring and diversified economic base closely linked with the Washington, D.C. regional economy; Above-average wealth indicators; Consistently sound financial operations; and A growing, yet manageable, debt burden. The county (population 186,400) is directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. Vibrant commercial and retail development along the Metrorail corridor has offset the impact of a reduction in government services and loss of several navy bases. The county is home to the Pentagon and the new U.S. State Department's National Foreign Affairs Training Center.
