Abstract NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) Nov. 4, 1999--Standard & Poor's today affirmed its ratings on American Financial Group Inc. and related entities (see list). The outlook is stable. At the same time, Standard & Poor's assigned its counterparty credit and financial strength ratings to five operating insurance subsidiaries (see list). The ratings are based on the group's strong business position, operating performance, and much improved financial flexibility. Despite a substantive pretax reserve strengthening of $214 million in 1998, the group's consolidated capitalization remains strong.
