Abstract
Amid an environment of weak corporate earnings, rising stars are increasingly difficult to find. Currently, there are 15 issuers around the globe that have rising star potential, one fewer than identified in November 2002. The majority of these issuers are within the U.S. and Canada. Globally distributed, a concentration of potential rising star issuers exists in the health care and media & entertainment industries, together representing half of the list. A rising star is an issuer whose credit rating rises to 'BBB-' and above from 'BB+' and below, hence making the move to the investment-grade rating category from the speculative-grade rating category.
