S&P: No Change for Telia or Telenor during Merger talk Jan 98

Abstract
LONDON -- Standard & Poor's CreditWire 1/28/98 -- Standard & Poor's continues to closely monitor the ongoing discussions between Norwegian Telenor AS (Telenor) and Swedish Telia AB (Telia) but will not take any immediate rating actions. While negotiations between the two companies are taking place, they are still in a relatively early phase and many uncertainties remain, including the nature of future cooperation. The final outcome of the talks also depends on Parliamentary approvals in the two countries, and regulatory authorizations. Possible rating changes are not likely to be dramatic. Telenor presently has a double-'A'-plus long-term and 'A-1'-plus short-term corporate credit rating with negative outlook, while Telia has a double-'A' long-term and 'A-1'-plus short-term corporate credit rating with stable outlook....
