Abstract
The outlook for credit quality in the U.S. environmental services sector remains stable despite continued weakness in the economy. Although volumes in waste collection and disposal have continued to contract moderately and prices for recycled commodities have softened, industry participants have been able to maintain solid pricing. In general, lower volumes from construction and demolition-related activities, which are sensitive to economic conditions, have not yet elicited meaningful deterioration in credit quality. Looking ahead, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services may take rating actions on some industry participants following likely mergers and acquisitions, and on issuers at the low end of the rating spectrum that are vulnerable to downgrades.
