Federal Reserve System (The Fed) is the central banking authority system in the U.S responsible for the safety, reliability and strength of the economy and financial system of the country. The primary responsibility of the Fed is to formulate and implement a monetary policy, administer and regulate commercial banks, provide an elastic currency, support the government's financing operations, and serve as the banker for the U.S government. The entire Federal Reserve is divided into twelve Federal Reserve districts. The Fed’s structure consists of Board of Governors, the 12 Federal Reserve Banks, which operate through 24 branches across the country and three advisory councils, namely, Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the Consumer Advisory Council and the Thrift Institutions Advisory Council. The Fed is headquartered in New York, the US.
