This study covers the state of the global marine and algae oil EPA/DHA Omega-3 ingredient market, examining drivers and restraints for growth, pricing, distribution, technology, legislation, demand and geographical trends. Following from these, market growth for market segments are forecasted. In addition, an in-depth analysis of the competitive situation including omega-3 ingredient manufacturer market shares is performed. The base year is 2009 with forecasts running through 2015. This study is further divided into product type and species-specific omega-3 ingredient market analyses.

Omega-3 fatty acids are a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) that are considered nutritionally essential. The main types of omega-3 fatty acids, ranked in ascending order by the length of each molecule?s carbon chain, include:

- Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA)
- Stearidonic Acid (SDA)
- Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA)
- Docosapentaenoic Acid (DPA)
- Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)

The two specific omega-3 fatty acids explored in this study are EPA and DHA. These two fatty acids are primarily derived from marine and algae sources, and each has an important role in the promotion of health. Omega-3 ALA, primarily sourced from oilseeds, will not be explored in this study.
