According to Cygnus estimates the business education market in India was estimated at about Rs35 billion in 2010 (campus and distance education together) and currently 4,800 business schools producing over 140,000 management graduates every year is not enough to meet the growing demand for management education in India. The total 2650 seats offered by the 11 IIMs, there are about 1340 seats that can accommodate candidates from the general category.

Interestingly, the number of General category candidates taking CAT 2010 has dropped by 1% to 81% compared to that in CAT 2009. The percentage of NC-OBC category candidates taking the test remains the same at 11%. This year approximately 0.24 million students took the CAT. As a result, opportunities in management education in India are immense. Furthermore, the increasingly globalised nature and context of business in the Indian economy require an expanded horizon of management and leadership, which can be achieved through continuous improvement and up gradation of capabilities, skills and change of mindset of the management graduates.
