U.S. Appliance Shipment Statistics Monthly: February 2011

Unit shipments were up in December, helping the industry to rebound from its third-quarter slump. Several major appliance categories ended the year with unit shipments up 5% or better over 2009. Full-year 2010 non-adjusted Electronics & Appliance Store sales increased 2.9% from full-year 2009. The group of core major appliances, including washers, dryers, disherwashers, refrigerators, freezers, ranges and ovens, ended the year up 6.4%. Full-year unit shipments of refrigerators for 2010 increased the most versus 2009, climbing 11.6%. Manufacturing also showed signs of a global upswing in December for the 17th consecutive month. According to the Manufacturing ISM Report on Business, economic activity in the manufacturing sector expanded and the overall economy grew for the 20th consecutive month. Additionally, growth occurred in new orders and employment for December.
