Storage Virtualization: Experience Begets Benefits
Aberdeen Group, March 2011, Pages: 9
In January 2011, Aberdeen surveyed the IT community to learn of their experiences from deploying storage virtualization. The survey was designed to learn both their strategies and the tangible business and operational benefits they achieved. Respondents to the Aberdeen survey were segmented into two groups - companies with the most storage virtualization experience (greater than two years) and organizations with relatively recent deployments (less than two years).
Organizations with the longer storage virtualization track record showed greater tangible business benefits than the newly virtualized group, including:
- Twice the reduction in instances of application downtime since deploying storage virtualization technology - A 40% shorter time to deploy new applications, and - A 10% reduction in power consumption since deploying storage virtualization products vs. an increase of 2% for companies with less experience
In addition, companies with a higher percentage of virtualized storage devices were able to redeploy more of their staff away from exclusively managing storage to other areas within IT organization.
Key report benefits:
- Deploy New Apps Faster - Reduce Power Consumption - Use Cloud-Based Storage
