U.S. Appliance Shipment Statistics Monthly: Q3 2011

February 2011 unit shipments increased versus the January 2011 total, coming in at $9.15 billion. This figure was up 5% from $8.71 billion in January 2011 and up 8.4% from $8.46 billion in February 2010. Gas cooking appliance increased the most versus February 2010, climbing 4.8%, while electric cooking appliances fell 0.2%. Gas and electric dryer unit shipments for February 2011 decreased the most compared to February 2010, falling 3.9%. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that adjusted Electronics & Appliance Store sales in February 2011 were $8.47 billion, up slightly from $8.4 billion in January 2011 and edging down from $8.66 billion in February 2010.
Winners of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) annual Energy Star awards were announced in March. Whirpool was awarded the 2011 Energy Star Sustained Excellence award — the EPA's highest Energy Star award — for the sixth consecutive year, making it Whirpool's 12th top Energy Star award. Other awards include the 2011 Energy Star Partner of the Year in the Product Manufacturing Category given to Samsung Electronics and the 2011 Energy Star Award for Excellence in energy-efficient product design awarded to Scotsman Ice Systems.
