Worldwide Market for Enterprise-Class Multiformat Transcoders - 2011 Edition
In-Stat/MDR, Aug 2011, Pages: 28
The multiformat transcoder market continue to grow due to multiscreen services being offered by content providers and TV Everywhere services being launched by TV service providers.
New devices, new formats, and more content will drive the number of profiles required to be generated by multiformat transcoders upward. While processor and product improvements will enable more from each server, it will not be enough to keep up with the demand requiring purchase of more capability.
Service providers and content providers are the main customers for these products. While there are similarities in their product needs such as video quality, there are also differences in density and keeping packaging together with transcoding.
While the file market experienced the most growth in 2010, we expect multiformat transcoders for live streaming to show the most growth over the next five years. Content providers with files to transcode have the option of using cloud-based transcoding services rather than building out their own facilities, while live transcoding in the cloud is unlikely.
Though there was consolidation in the market in 2010 with the purchase of Anystream by Telestream, the other sales of vendors were to vendors who did not previously have multiformat transcoder products. There have also been new entrants in 2011 wanting to capitalize on their service provider relationships by offering new products. Therefore there are more competitors than ever.
