1. UK Government to Cut FITs for Solar As part of the budget cuts, the UK government has proposed a reduction to the tariffs paid for power generated from solar PV installations. The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announced that the feed-in tariffs for solar PV projects would be reduced by around 55%. The new rates will be applicable for projects installed on or after 12 December 2011 and will be effective April 2012 onwards. The existing projects and those installed before 12 December 2011 will continue to receive the existing tariffs. The government opted to reduce the tariffs rather than eliminate them so as not to threaten the feasibility of the whole scheme.
