Abstract
China's real estate developers can't relax too much. Sales spikes at the end of 2009 were partly attributable to buyers rushing to purchase ahead of policy tightening. Average sales prices rose to a 21-month high in 70 major cities in January 2010, fueling fears of an asset bubble and inflation. Standard & Poor's Ratings Services therefore expects the central government to introduce further measures to stabilize the market. Mid-2010 could prove the turning point for many developers as increased supply leads competition to intensify and Beijing's initiatives weaken demand.
