Industry Report Card: Despite Rising Inflation, Latin American Consumer Goods Producers Should Remain Stable In 2011 May 11

Abstract
Although rising inflation is encroaching on Latin American consumer goods companies, we expect ratings to remain somewhat stable in 2011 because of strong demand, good capital markets, and cost cutting initiatives. (Listen to the related podcast titled, "Why Inflation Won-t Destabilize Latin American Consumer Goods Companies," dated June 2, 2011.) Most producers, especially companies that have a strong market position and portfolio, have been able to pass the rising costs on to their customers. Companies have also become more efficient and lessened expenses to maintain acceptable margins. Decreasing unemployment rates, rising available income and consumer confidence, and higher consumer spending are also contributing to our stable outlook by enhancing demand in domestic markets.
