Abstract
On Aug. 30, 2005, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services assigned its 'A/A-1' long-term and short-term counterparty credit ratings to VP Bank Verwaltungs- und Privat-Bank AG (VP Bank), based in the Principality of Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein). The outlook is stable. The ratings reflect the bank's solid risk and financial profile, which is characterized by sound asset quality and capital strength, and good profitability. VP Bank pursues a strict cost regime to deal with the competitive environment and tightening regulatory requirements. The ratings also take into consideration that VP Bank's market position and franchise in the area of private banking has remained modest, however, despite intensive efforts to expand its global reach in this core activity.
