Abstract In early July, CreditWeek editors sat down with some of Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' leading analysts for a roundtable discussion about global financial institutions. Panelists shared their views on the prospects for continued consolidation in the industry, the impact of new regulations, and the potential effects of a rise in interest rates in the U.S., among other key issues. Analysts in the U.S. and Europe generally expect a gradual recovery for the sector to continue, but noted that the cost of complying with new regulations could cut into banks' profits. The outlook in Asia and Latin America is generally stable and more upbeat, with expectations for continued lending and growth in profits, although inflation remains a significant downside risk...
