Abstract The rating on AXA General Insurance Hong Kong Ltd. (AXA General Hong Kong) reflects the company's weak, albeit improving, underwriting performance and its below average capitalization. These factors are counterbalanced by the company's satisfactory market position. AXA General Hong Kong is a member of the French-based global insurance group, AXA. It is the sixth-largest insurer in the highly competitive Hong Kong general insurance market. The company's premium income fell by 8% to Hong Kong dollar (HK$) 717 million in 2002 from HK$778 million in 2001, while the Hong Kong general insurance market recorded a 19% growth in gross premiums.
