Near Term Industry Analysis of US Therapeutic Discovery Programs: A Foretaste on What We can Expect from the US Life Science Industry in the Future

This analysis was initiated and is based on the U.S. Governments $1 Billion dollars Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project (QTDP) program. It was a competitive awards process with some 5,600 applications from nation-wide being reviewed by the US National Institutes of Health in 2010. The program was oversubscribed with about $10 Billion in requests. The QTDP program has generated a very unique and wide sampeling of what could be regarded as the very best of US life science industry. Ultimately 4,606 projects from 2,923 companies were deemed eligible. The grant arm of the QTDP program, representing 4,516 projects (98%), 2,844 companies (97%) and $981 Million dollars (98%), is by far the most dominating part of this initiative and is also the basis for the present analysis. The foundation for the analysis is based on research and interpreting all grant projects according to 57 life science categories-.
The second part has been to connect projects with proper company descriptions, including full contact details and company profile. Thirdly, as the relevance of the grant projects are tightly linked to the people involved, BioSeeker has included almost 13,000 key personnel associated with included companies.
