Huaneng Xinjiang Energy to Build a New Coal-Fired Power Plant: China Promoting the Development of Highly Efficient Clean-Coal Power Generation Fleet - Deal Analysis From GlobalData
Summary
Huaneng Xinjiang Energy Development Co., Ltd., a regional, wholly-owned subsidiary of China Huaneng Group (CHNG), announced that it will build a CNY6,000m ($891.02m) coal-fired power project in Hami, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. The project will adopt modern and highly efficient technologies that will result in minimal carbon dioxide emissions and also reduced water consumption, to make coal-fired generation from their power plants more environmentally friendly. This project will be the first of its kind in the Xinjiang region, with the ability to save three times more water than the usual coal-fired power plants. Besides this, the utility is also looking forward to establishing vertically integrated operations for the purpose of achieving economies of scale. For the same reason they have already acquired coal exploration rights at the East Junggar Basin in the Xinjiang region. By securing a domestic supply of coal resources the utility will be able to mitigate the risk posed by the rising coal prices that are impacting the power generation sector of China.
