BBVA Panama S.A. y Subsidiarias 'BBB-/A-3' Ratings Affirmed; Outlook Stable Oct 08

Abstract
MEXICO CITY (Standard & Poor's) Oct. 16, 2008--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services revised its outlook on BBVA Panama S.A. y Subsidiarias (BBVA Panama) to stable from positive. At the same time, we affirmed the long- and short-term counterparty credit ratings on the bank at 'BBB-' and 'A-3', respectively. The outlook revision incorporates challenges that are outside of the bank's control, including the more adverse operating environment in Panama (as in other emerging markets) due to the turmoil in the global financial markets. Among the Panamanian banks rated by Standard & Poor's, BBVA Panama was the only one with a positive outlook, which indicated that the bank could be upgraded if it maintained its rapid-growth pattern along with its adequate financial...
