Abstract
Latin America, often politically and economically volatile, presents financial institutions with particular challenges. Since CreditWeek last examined financial institutions in this region of the world six months ago, those in three countriesBrazil, Mexico, and Chileare showing greater strength than the rest, as rejuvenated economies and government policies help them achieve their goals. Argentina and Colombia serve as examples of economies that, to varying degrees, have not fared as well, and their financial institutions reflect the national condition.
