Focus is provided on key markets around the globe in the form of regional regulatory overviews from leading industry players. They provide analysis on developments in all aspects of insurance and reinsurance from regulatory issues to innovative solutions for dispute resolution. The review includes a foreword from the International Underwriting Association and additional articles from Clifford Chance, the IBA, Munich Re, PwC, Swiss Re, among many more.

Excerpt

“In the last issue we gave a brief insight into the status of Solvency 2 and highlighted some of the key outstanding issues. Since then certain sectors have continued to lobby the European Commission about the adverse impact that some of the proposed rules will have on their business. Despite a significant amount of negative press, the general response from the industry has been positive, with support for the objectives of increasing policyholder protection and consumer confidence. Although (re)insurers may face challenges, for some the new regime will also give rise to opportunities. In this article we explore some of those challenges and opportunities, in particular around catastrophe risk charges, transfer of risk to the capital markets, innovative capital raising and equivalence for non-EEA reinsurers.”
