Abstract
The European Investment Fund (EIF) is a Luxembourg-based financial institution of the European Union (EU; foreign currency AAA/Stable/A-1+ as of June 30, 2010; all references to ratings hereafter are to foreign currency sovereign credit ratings). At Dec. 31, 2009, EIF's shareholders were: the European Investment Bank (EIB; AAA/Stable/A-1+) with a 62.1% shareholding; the EU, represented by the European Commission with a 29.3% shareholding; and 30 financial institutions from the enlarged EU with a combined 8.6% shareholding.
