Radar for Hosted Message Security Services: Q2 2011

In 2010, Security as a Service Research Report highlighted the growth of both managed and hosted security services. Within this broad spectrum, few domains have enjoyed the success of Hosted Message Security (HMS) services. HMS services have done more than offload email security to'cloud'-based providers that can concentrate expertise in large-scale, hosted environments. Their acceptance has provided a launching point for security leaders to broaden into hosted offerings, while others dominant in IT-as-a-service beyond security have seen HMS services give them a platform for expanding their opportunities.
In this Radar Report, nine vendors of HMS services are reviewed based on EMA criteria for functionality, deployment and administration, cost advantage, architecture and integration, and vendor strength. The report highlights the nature of a space that, though one of the most well-established domains of 'Security as a Service,' continues to show significant growth and increasing alignment with closely related technologies in hosted messaging, content security and control.
