One of the newest and most promising of the new breed of self-learning analytics systems is Prelert. Prelert is unmatched in both its ability to assimilate multiple data types (log, event, performance, usage and external data) and the speed with which it can process data to create the actual narratives underlying thorny problems with critical applications. In its flexible and granular treatment of time, it is unique and largely complementary to other management tools, and can capture interdependencies across seemingly unrelated actions that no other solution can currently recognize. In this way it is unique in its ability to detect causal chains or narratives that include data points that are innocuous in and of themselves. This report looks at Prelert's capabilities in market context as a compelling, though still emerging, entrant into this fast growing and much needed market technology sector.
