Executive Insights: An Interview with James Powell, CTO of Thomson Reuters – The Journey to a New Standard Platform

As a follow-up to Saugatuck’ Cloud Business Summit conference, held on May 10th in New York City, Saugatuck’s Bill McNee and Bruce Guptill recently caught up with James Powell, CTO of Thomson Reuters as part of our ongoing Executive Insights research program. Here James shares his insight into how Thomson Reuters is using the Cloud to simplify internal processes, manage costs, and leverage a common architecture and platform. Powell also shares his vision for how the Cloud and information businesses are intersecting, including new white space opportunities that are potentially emerging, especially around scale-based data, algorithms and information privacy – and what Powell terms the “anonymization” of context broking. We conclude with key lessons learned based on Thomson Reuters experience, as well as some best practice advice for other CIOs and CTOs beginning the journey in the Cloud.
