This report provides detailed information on various ceramics used for semiconductor equipment and processes. A full listing of current IP is provided. Market size, market share, and growth statistics are included.

This report deals with ceramics such as Al2O3 and ALN used in the semiconductor industry, primarily by and for OEM suppliers, for sale to wafer fab applications. It does not include specifics for the packaging ceramics (hi-rel) business. While Silicon Carbide (SiC) is considered a ceramic, and is mentioned in this report, we offer a separate report for SiC and for Quartz used in these similar applications.

Semiconductor Ceramic OEM Parts Jump 22%

The 2010 market for fabricated ceramic OEM parts for semiconductor applications totaled $238M, up 22% over the 2009 low, according to a new report from Techcet Group, “The Semiconductor Industry OEM Market for Ceramic Materials 2011,” a Techcet Group Critical Materials Report. The outlook is for continuing recovery with an additional 14% growth in 2011, slowing to a more moderate 5% growth in 2012, according to Techcet's latest forecast.

Of the dozens of ceramic suppliers serving this broader market, three continue to dominate the OEM parts manufacturing segment: CoorsTek, Kyocera, and Sumitomo. Consumption is dominated by OEMs in the US (mainly Applied Materials) and Japan, although the parts revenue ultimately comes from fabs in Asia/Pacific (46%) and Japan (29%). China alone is now generating 15% of the ceramic parts revenue for new OEM tools. The lifetime of ceramic parts has increased 3x-8x over the past 10-15 years due to continuing improvements in 3rd party cleaning and refurbishing services, which slows the growth for new parts. Another factor impacting OEM ceramic parts market growth is increasing competition with parts not authorized or licensed by the OEM, manufactured primarily in Asia, that are sold directly to chip fabs.

In addition to market analysis, technical trends and critical supply chain issues, the report includes an overview of the ceramic OEM parts suppliers to the global semiconductor industry. OEM parts and fab parts manufactured from silicon, silicon carbide and quartz are each covered in separate reports.
