Summary
The global polyolefins market continued on the decline trend from the previous month with a further decrease in demand and prices. The prices which were largely stable for the first half of the month despite weak demand experienced a sharp slump in the second half. In September, the US again witnessed a decrease in polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) prices on account of decreasing feedstock prices. In Asia, weak demand from downstream industries and ample availability made the market very dull. Europe has experienced a similar scenario, and PE producers found it very difficult to enforce the previously planned price hikes. Low demand from downstream segments and low feedstock prices did not support a price hike in Europe.
