Tuscaloosa Marine Shale - Development Plans of Key E&P Companies in the Play
Summary
Tuscaloosa Marine shale (TMS), an emerging shale play, is estimated to have seven billion barrels (bbl) unproven unconventional oil resource. With increasing availability of advanced technologies for horizontal drilling, exploration and production (E&P) companies are hopeful of commercial viability of the TMS play, especially after the successful production from Eagle Ford Shale. Eagle Ford shale play is of the similar age as the TMS and is in close proximity to the TMS. The TMS is considered to be stratigraphic equivalent of the South Texas Eagle Ford shale. Currently, several E&P companies have begun exploratory drilling in the play, while others have adopted a wait and watch strategy for the initial exploration results, which, if successful, would increase the investment attractiveness of this oil shale.
